White Wednesday---over the fence...

I'm not sure what there is about a picket fence
that makes me love them so.
They just say community to me.

It doesn't matter to me if they are freshly painted or

or chippy and leaning, they are just so charming.

My dream of having one for myself has not yet

come true, but I still dream.

I have always imagined myself leaning over

the fence talking to my sweet friend Sarah.

Trying to solve the worlds problems

one conversation at a time.

I think a cottage looks so much more

inviting, so much friendlier

when surrounded by a picket fence.

Yes, I was the girl that always said
I wanted a house with a white picket fence
and a yard full of children.

Did you ever say that?

When I drive through unfamiliar towns,

I like to take the side streets and see all

the old homes and cottages with their

little white fences surrounding them.

All of these pretty little pickets were photographed

when I went to Hailey yesterday to run some errands.

The lighting was poor this day, so I apologize
for the pictures being a little dark.

Hailey is a small town 30 miles from my small

town Idaho. It is so full of charm that it just

seems to wrap you in it's arms.

I love towns like this.

It is much bigger than where I live, but still small enough

that is has retained it's wonderful sense

of community well.

No malls or shopping centers here.

Just a lot of cute picket fences!

Thank you to Kathleen at Faded Charm for

hosting White Wednesday every week.

  11. My June, I too do love picket fences especially when I can build something else with them and recycle! I always wanted a house with a picket fence, no can't do with the coyote around! One of my favorite peek is your last photo, looks like a Christmas card: the pine tree to the left, the white picket, the red of the leaves and the birdhouse. Have a great rest of the week Ciao Rita

  13. I always thought a picket fence was homey ... When we bought this house I put one up & the neighbors hated it, making sure we knew this. When we took it down & created garden terraces there, years later, I gave him the old fence wood to burn ... chuckle!

You do such gorgeous pics, June.

Love all the picket fences especially the last one with the little red bird house proped on top :-) Yes, I always wanted the picket fence too ...it's the first thing my husband built when we moved into our home 20 years ago. One of my daughter's friend always says that when he walks up the path to our home he is sure he hears the Leave It to Beaver theme song :-) I love that!

Nothing sweeter than a white picket fence ...especially around a home we love. ~~ That town is WAY DELIGHTFUL...how fortunate you are to be able to drive over there and spend time and wander about and enjoy it all.~~ I am in fear that small towns are "going by the wayside" .....and the charm of them, if we are not careful. ~~
We NEED to photograph them...as often as we are able. ~~

  41. Both hubby and I have always wanted a white picket fence. Hasn't happened yet for us either. Our city used to be like that when it was a town, only 5 short years ago. No malls or shopping centers. At least we are in the older area with the history and Old Towne, near the 100+yr. old farms, and original H.S next to the original Big park with the old schoolhouse from the 1800's. Attending the Veteran's Day parade along the Old Towne Blvd. adorned with American flags on every street pole felt like the good old days.

  54. Dearest June, this fences really produce a warm welcome-aura! And I think they look more "cosy" if they are NOT fresh painted. (But I have an office-collegue with such a fence - she hates it because it makes lot of work to paint it every year... hmmm)
When I was young i didn't know if I "wanted a house with a white picket fence and a yard full of children". I said: I want to be free, don't like to marry, I want no house - it only makes a lot of work - and I wasn't sure if I ever would like to become mother. I said: We'll see what life will bring to me... And what brought life? Now I am married, I have a wonderful 16 years old daughter, a house with a garden, I'm not really free but quite happy, but I don't have a picket fence... (Our fence was made by the blacksmith I told you a few days ago... ;-)) I think it's a good life and a good fence...
Thanks for your pretty WW-pictures and inspirations!!!
    Hugs, Traude

  56. Hello June.
Oh, yes! I am a kindred spirit in this respect as well. As a child, my ideal life was a cottage home with a picket fence and lots of children and animals (cats, dogs, squirrels, birds lol) playing inside it...Morning Glories and roses spilling across the pickets.

I am a blessed soul to be able to tell you that my dreams came true beyond my wildest dreams. (Along with the wisdom that we cannot appreciate the sweet without the bitter.) That being said, a Picket fence still makes my heart beat a little faster and sparks memories and visions of contentment and charm. Thank you for the lovely post and the sweet images.
    Warmly,
    Tracey

  63. Oh June, I so have to agree with you about picket fences. They evoke a sense of coziness, of HOME, of Welcome-one-and-all! I grew up across the street from a house that had a lovely white picket fence all around the front yard, and I so loved to look out our livingroom windows and see that fence. When I was home last in NJ, the house had been sold and the new owners had torn down the fence. I almost cried, thinking what a waste! The house is no longer so cozy looking, and some times I picture the house crying for its beloved white picket fence!! (I know, silly me for such thoughts!). Have a grand weekend, where ever it finds. hugs dear friend, Debby

I am living in a modern apartment building with my oldest daughter right now; in about a year or so I will have my own little cottage/duplex and then I can hope I find one with a white picket fence : )

  65. Hey there Junebug!! I am a picket fence lover. I always dreamed of having a small little cottage-check to have pretty little picketed fence all around. Next spring we will put in the fence to give our small place a sweet cozy feel. We'll chain link behind it to keep the dogs in but the picket is what we'll see clearly.

I meant to tell you, I saw a show on discovery a couple weeks back about angleman syndrome. Amazing. I found out quite a bit about the disorder and was fascinated by how many doctors miss rather than diagnose it.

  70. I am a lover of picket fences too and like you don't have one of those charming things!! I am hoping to have just a teeny bit of picket when we fence in the large yard- most will be just a field fence which will hopefully be camouflaged with all the trees and vines that will grow on it but there is a tiny section where my detached sun room is that it would look just perfect. Of course a little arbor is in order there too!!

Oh June wouldn't that just be the cherry on top if you could come stay in my lil ol guest room- not you staying in the room but us getting to meet!! Friend if you are ever down Colorado way- you will always be heartily welcome!!

We are off to the the big city to find furniture for my little booth- I am selling lots and need more to fill up my space! Oh I wish you could see it- I hung lace table cloths on the walls to hide the yucky rust paint- wow the merchandise just pops off those walls now!!

I thought of you today...I found the perfect chippy with a teensy bit of rust~"Angel".

She is made of metal and can be a Christmas tree topper too.

My middle name is Angela and for years everyone called me Angel. I thought Angel was not a very grown up name...so in 5th grade I made everyone start calling me "Sheri"...my first name. Most of my family still calls me Angel or Angela.

Do you know..if I could take it back.....I would have stayed "Angel".....

You are the first blogger that I have EVER shared that story with :)
