Today I would like to share with you my favorite Christmas decoration in the house. This little clay Nativity was made by my oldest child Kimberlee when she was in fifth grade. She was the only one of my children that was lucky enough to have Mrs. Hendrickson as her teacher. My daughter's class was her last in this little Idaho town. She had been raised here and I believe that this was her first teaching job after graduating college. She and her husband moved from here and she took a teaching job elsewhere, but not before she left her wonderful mark on many students here. One of the things she enjoyed teaching each of her fifth grade classes was working in pottery and baking them in her kiln. I have some sweet little pieces of art made by Kim, with the help of her teacher. This Nativity means so much to me and I love displaying it every Christmas. I'm very lucky that Kim hasn't asked for this little set, because I really don't know that I could part with it. Every year when I unwrap this little trio, I am flooded with memories of my sweet little fifth grader and how proud she was the day she brought this home.
A lot of my Christmas decorations are very humble and wouldn't be worth much at a thrift store, but they have the power to take me back through time and unbury memories that bring back the magic of the season. To me they are priceless!
If you love white like I do, you may want to go to Kathleen's Faded Charm for some real white inspiration.
I wish all of you a wonderful White Wednesday!
It's all so lovely.

June amor, how beautiful your nativity is, sometimes what others put lil value on...is what is priceless and unreplaceable to us! I love all your whites as always...but this...well this nativity took the cake! You should do something like that with your grandkids, with that homemade salty playdough, I know I have the recipe here somewhere..I used to teach preschool :) let me know if you want it, you can make all kinds of special memories with them now :) Besos, Rose
ReplyDeletenow that is truly special:) and i just love your numbered bottles beside the nativity, too. Oh June your nativity is just precious! I was in love with it then read the little story behind it and my what a treasure!! I have several little sweets that my boys made- l was an egg little David carved out of wood after he had broke one of my ceramic ones. Don't you know I love that wood one so much more than the pretty one that broke!
ReplyDeleteMy Wed post will be a tad late as I didn't get pictures taken today and they have to be taken in the daytime in this room!

Very sweet June! Those are priceless treasures.
ReplyDeleteHi June
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have such a treasure. The kids and I made a lot of ornaments but only a few survived through the years. Most of them were eaten by a goat we had on the farm, he got into the garage where I had a box of ornaments and ate them as goats will do. Your whites are beautiful this week...
Blessings
Rebecca
Hi June... Your whites are simply beautiful.. I adore your prisms.. again.. you have out done yourself!
ReplyDeleteHi June, your home is just beautiful, and I love this precious little keepsake from your daughter. Sweet memories created by a child's hand are a more powerful statement of what Christmas really is, than all the glitz and glitter could ever be.

oh that is so special. I have a creche that my oldest son made at the cabin our of wood while his dad and grandpa were building the deck. He decorated the front with acorns which have all fallen off and some of the nails are in crooked but I love it so much too when I bring it out every year. I know the feeling you get. I can't wait every Wednesday to see what you have for white Wednesday!!!! Love all your decorations..
ReplyDeleteHi June. I have every Christmas ornament ever made by my sons and I treasure them as you do that creche. Thanks for yet another peek into your blessed home.

Hi, June,
ReplyDeleteI can see why you treasure that sweet nativity made by Kim. I think these treasures are the very best. Kim was fortunate to have such a creative teacher who nurtured her students' creativity. My favorite subject to teach my students was art. I always enjoy seeing your beautiful home and lovely Christmas decorations. Much love to you!! Vicki
Hi June,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the most precious things are not worth a lot of money but so much more in memories. I'm just sad that I no longer have my Christmas things from when I was growing up because there are so many great memories. So glad you have your daughter's decoration.
