in the garden

Sharing a few photos I took weeks ago in the garden.
It's not because I haven't got more current ones, it's just that I didn't
want to miss out on some of the earlier blooms.

This is a little bouquet of scabiosa, lady's mantle and roses I took
to display in the gazebo along with a little iron crib made up
and some peonies.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In front of the studio is an old cast iron wood stove planted in foxglove,
Foxglove are just one of those flowers that say cottage to me.
They are so difficult to grow here because I'm not in the right zone for them,
so I always treat them as an annual plant in my garden.
I buy larger plants every spring and plant them up in pots.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love walking up our front walk to the door and have these beauties
to greet me.
Delphinium are also tricky to grow here. Sometimes they winter over
and sometimes they don't.
So----
it's to the nursery I go---again!
They are just too pretty not to have in the beds.

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer or winter wherever
it is in the world you live.
Thank you so much for following along here
and allowing me into your lives and you into mine.

~sending hugs your way~

  1. Oh, such loveliness!

    Your pictures bring such joy to my soul. Thank you so much for sharing.

    Yes, I love those"cottage" flowers that just don't want to grow here - winters are so harsh cold and long...........but this summer has been nearly unbearable with all the rain and heat.

    So seeing your garden pics are just so delightful, and a blessing and gift. ♥

  2. Absolutely, unbelievably beautiful June, as always. I adore delphiniums but they don't seem to like the conditions in our garden and the slugs just munch away at them !!
    ……. and I LOVE that iron bed.
    Our Alchimilla Mollis is finished now which is a shame because it always looks so lovely with other flowers, doesn't it ?
    Enjoy your beautiful garden June and I look forward to seeing more.
    Lots of love. XXXX

    The summer here has been wet and cold, so my roses has not been blooming yet.

  10. June your gardens are beautiful and full of inspiration as always. I like your idea of treating the foxgloves as an annual. I have tried planting them every year to only have tiny spindly ones come up the following years. I think next year I am going to borrow your idea. Have a wonderful summer and enjoy the blooms. 12. Gorgeous pix as always! Your flowers are beautiful, and that bed makes me drool!
    I need to plants me some delphiniums here ~ they did well in Yakima, so I'm hoping they'll do the same here. I've never had foxgloves do well for me ~ too bad, as they are perfect for this old CCU nurse!

  15. Hi June, your garden is pretty as ever. I love cottage gardens and you succeeded so well in creating one. Love the Scabiosa! Somehow here it's always covered in mould and the flowers are few and far too small. You gave me a great idea about the Digitalis(foxgloves). I've tried to sow them but that didn't work out in the end, as with many plants in our garden. I thought foxgloves wouldn't mind the shade but maybe they do and maybe the soil isn't great for them either. Next year I'll try to find some large plants instead and put them in (yet another) container ;) I hope that'll work. Worth to try anyway. Thanks! Somehow those lovely little bags of seeds always attract me and I end up buying some every year but I should look out for plants instead and skip the whole sowing and planting and hoping-it'll-grow-and-bloom stadium which is fun of course unless it always ends in failure and disappointment.
    O, also love that your pictures are so full of sun! And I can see the plants love it too ;)

  17. June,

    I love the combination of flowers and colours you have in your garden. I have always been a fan of pinks, mauve, deep purple, blue, white for my flower beds. Delphinium is on my list of additions to the garden, maybe I should head over to the garden center too.
    It all looks beautiful - thanks for sharing the prettiness.

  28. My dad had foxglove growing crazy in his yard and he treated them like weeds, pulling them out and into the trash. I never could get them to grow in my yard though! Glad to see you post, is it as hot there as here? It is crazy hot here and just to uncomfortable for spending much time outdoors, needless to say my gardens are fried and the grass in dead. So much for a beautiful blooming season! take care my friend.

  34. Hello dear June, You always take me into another world with your gorgeous pictures. Your garden is such an amazing place. This iron bed is fabulous. I could just sink in and dream away. Over here it's too hot to spend time outside. At least the little kumquat tree we bought loves the heat. It's full of fruit and already blooms again.

  35. Hello sweet June,
    Oh what a gorgeous combination is the scabiosa, Lady's mantle and the roses. I have never tried this but oh so elegant!
    I would also find it so hard to live without the foxgloves. Those of yours look so beautiful in that old stove - looks like the Strawberry one and I think I see some Apricot varieties living happily with the Delphiniums too. I adore them so much - they are so graceful. We have a sea of white ones sometimes - they just self seed everywhere here.
    Enjoy this gorgeous time of the year as I think of you out there watering and doing the odd bit of weeding and tidying up.
    My love goes with you through your garden!

  40. Oh JUNE, you truly are the Village gardener....you have the perfect green thumb, as for the foxgloves they are a favorite of mine, well I do have many others as well and most of them are in your garden here.

    The crib daybed is a wonderful addition to your garden, what I love best is it's aged vibrant patina that picks up on the colour in your garden blooms, and a bed that would not have been thought to be a crib.
    It's been a dream of mine to have a sleeping area In The garden, perhaps my next home will allow the quietness of a place to rest after clipping away at the die off of what blooms have little life left in them.

    The gazebo well what can I say ? Other then what a perfect resting place for a glass of Lemonade out of the direct sun.
    Your garden is breathtaking.

    See you and your beauty soon.

    Xx

  41. Love the floral covered bed and your bouquet in the opening photograph! It is always such a treat to return your visits. I love foxgloves too and have been growing new plants for blooms the following spring. I have one delphinium after trying a number of times to grow them. They are always such stunning flowers. Have a great weekend June!

  42. One of the prettiest gardens in blogland. I too have tried growing Foxglove, but they do not winter over here. I love your solution!
    Delphinium do pretty well here... well, except when the deer eat them.

    Ahhhhhhhh, the challenges of gardening. But the rewards are many.

    Enjoy your weekend, dear June!

  46. Dear June, I woke up this morning to your lovely message and it really really helped. I've been feeling a bit gloomy along with this M.E.and other complications of that illness the past few weeks. So your words brought me over here to your doorstep and ALL my very favorite flowers. Flowers are such life-savers.... and even though my gardens are all now overgrown and untidy my husband always makes sure I have an abundance of flowers to feast my eyes upon and to cheer me. All the flowers in your gardens are my absolute favorites! The wonderful pale lilac of scabiosa and palest blue delphinium and the wonder of foxgloves!
    It's simply wonderful how your lovely photographs delight ALL of us blogging-friends, it re-affirms how alike we all can be even though we all are living in differing areas of the world. Your wonderful flowers and home fill our hearts.
    I feel thankful so thankful to have come upon your words today, you have tugged at that thread you mentioned and I send love back to you dear June.

  48. Hello, dearest June -
    aaaaah, Foxgloves!
    I've seen sooo many of them in Ireland, where the conditions are perfect for these flowers and I must confess I was a bit jealous: Because even in my garden they do not grow well. It's a good idea to buy larger plants and plant them into pots - I think I will try this next spring!
    Your garden photos are as always very beautiful and inspiring! And I think your garden would also fit very well to Ireland - where are so many wonderful gardens to visit. I'm sure your daughter told you about :o)
    Oh, and during our trip we met MANY Americans who visited the land of their ancestors (we asked them and they told us...) I think without the Irish emigrants the USA, Canada and Australia would be populated much less ;o))
    Lots of hugs and a wonderful new week,
    Traude
