My favorite time in the garden...

'John Cabot' climbing roses

Hey Debby, the pink birdhouse I painted for you!

"Strawberry' foxglove

'Dark Knight' delphinium

My favorite time in the garden is anytime, but I really do love the late afternoon, close to evening the best. The colors seem richer and deeper. The whole garden takes on a magical feeling. My husband loves this time best too. He'll sit out there for hours, just taking it all in. No television for him in the summer! He would rather be visiting in the garden with friends and family that stop by or just laying in the hammock or the settee. He always takes his meals out there in the evenings. I love that he loves it so much. He doesn't do the gardening, but he does dig the big holes I need for a new shrub or rose or even a tree, if I plant one. He also builds the arbors, and some of the trellises, and hangs the gates and birdhouses for me. I'm lucky that he lets me have free rein out there. Well, not really. He doesn't want any more beds created or trees planted. It's funny however, that I have made one very large bed and planted about nine trees, since he asked me to stop. I tell him that I'm just trying to off-set the carbon emissions that my truck (which is necessary for my gardening) puts off, by planting so many trees. I don't like him using the riding lawnmower near the beds or trees. He has replaced many a tree and shrub because he's a crazy man on that thing. I do all the push mowing and I love it. It is time to think and plan. It's very calming to me. Gardening helps me keep my sanity, I think. Yes anytime in the garden is a great time.

I'd love to be able to do some proper gardening, but it's too exhausting for me unfortunately. At least I can kind of enjoy yours though ;-)
Have a lovely weekend

oooo I was getting jealous of your hubby laying in MY hammock, but since he helps you around the garden by doing his "man duties", I'm fine with that. My feathers were ruffled there for a minute ;)

I'm still waiting on my application to apply for your maid/assistant gardner services...I check my mail daily, do you think it may have gotten lost? ;)

Beautiful garden June...just beautiful!!!!!

June your flowerbeds are just beautiful. It is getting so hot here that my beds are looking miserable. So I just enjoyed yours today. You certainly have a gift. Your hubby is a lucky man.

oh my gosh! Just beautiful! I used to have John Cabot roses at our old place.....we just moved up here 3 years ago, and I loved them! I had them climbing on the porch poles on my potting shed. I don't miss my old house....I miss my potting shed and my garden. Although I brought my garden with me, its not as large and no room for climbing roses....thanks so much again for sharing your gorgeous garden.....those foxglove and delphinium are 2 die 4 also. What a lovely vision!

June, don't fall over backwards from the shock of seeing me here. Yup, I am still alive and kicking!! The kids are home now with school finally out for the summer vacation. Time seems to travel fast when the kids are around all day long! :-) I love your post about the garden, and i really enjoyed hearing about hubby dear loving to be out there in the middle of all your loving accomplishments!! If I had a garden like that, I would take all my meals there too'! Good food with a great view and fantastic atmosphere!! Wow, no wonder you both love it so much. You said that you like to do all that work out there, that it clears your mind. Don't laugh at me when I say that I feel that way when I iron clothes. I don't really enjoy it so much, as that it is a mindless work, I can just let my thoughts drift, and I enjoy the fact that I am caring for the clothes that my hubby and children will wear. It comforts me in some motherly way. As for that pink birdhouse!! I LOVE love love it!!! I feel as if part of me is in your garden with you right now, thru that delightfully painted pink birdie house with me in mind!! I am sending you an extra special hug just for that!! Thinking of you even when I am not on blogger as much anymore. Enjoy the days of summer, and here is wishing you and your family a wonderful 4th of July celebration!!!! hugs, Debby

I would love to come lay about in your garden. On my back, on the grass just looking about enjoying your beautiful flowers. I agree about the time of day to look. I also like daybreak as well when all is quiet in the world. Intoxicating.

June,

I can understand why your husbnad loves to be in the garden-it's GORGEOUS! You really do have a green thumb! I can't imagine all of the work you must have put into a garden so large-it looks like it goes on and on. I must say that your gardens are some of the most beautiful I have seen:). Enjoy!

Blessings,

Kim

Anytime in your garden is best for me too...it is just too lovely for words. And that is so wonderful that your husband enjoys it as much as you do...it would be so sad if he didn't...missing all that beauty...

Oh and...I love your reasoning for the extra planting...hehe! Made me smile!
