The only flower I plant from seed in my garden are my beloved sweet peas. Everything else are perennials that I have planted throughout the last few years from 4" cups and one gallon containers. I must have sweet peas. They are the most fragrant little things and make the garden come alive with scent long after the lilacs, crabapples, and mock orange have gone away.
I plant them kind of helter skelter, here and there, and let them clamor up trellises, taller shrubs, and fences. Right now the garden is alive with the yummiest smells. Sweet peas, roses, and lilies are all in bloom and trying to be scent-er stage.
I just love 'em.
Such delicate little blooms.
I'm thinking this must be what Heaven smells like.

I have a friend who loves her things like I do and orders now and then. She got these from Cath a few weeks ago. Well I loved them and she let me tag on to her last order for a set of my own.
I love tins and can find a million uses for them. These are going to be in the laundry room containing some clutter that seems to gather there, like all the spare change from my husband's jeans.
I wonder if he'll think of looking in one of these? I think I just figured out how to pay for my Cath habit.

Hi June! I never knew sweet peas smelled. They are very pretty. Your tins are wonderful too.
ReplyDeleteHi June,
ReplyDeleteThose sweet peas are gorgeous. That is one flower I don't think that I have grown for years. I am going to have to give them a try again next year. Flower season is over here...or almost over.
Love those tins too and I agree with you! I think you found a way to pay for your CK habit! LOL
Blessings~
I must grow some sweet peas, looks like they have the "wild flower" look so I will be thinking of a great spot...I'm thinking of a spot now, hmmm perfect, below our bedroom window by a big rose bush, do they take the sun well? Like the south side? Sure hope so.
ReplyDeleteHey, just dont let him tip those tins over and he will never know there is play money inside!
I so love sweet peas! I haven't tried to grow them here in Colorado but really should try. Would you know if I would still plant them in Fall like I am used to doing in warmer climates? Do yours come up random now?
ReplyDeleteThose tins are the sweetest! I must try to get one of her catalogs!!

Oh Junebug, I love those canisters. Gorgeous. Where ever did you get them from?
ReplyDeleteI had a neighbor friend donate a Rose of Sharon to us last weekend and she gave us our first flower already. We put her in knowing she may not do well til next year but sure enough, she took hold. I was so psyched I couldn't believe it. Beautiful.
Abby is struggling with trust but we see glimmers of hope. She is deathly afraid of men... poor baby.
Hugs.
Tammy
Hi June,
ReplyDeleteSweet peas are beautiful and I love yours.
I can remember my Mother growing them up a trellis and the colour and fragrance was wonderful. I must grow some myself.
Your canisters are pretty and what a good thing storing hubbies loose change in.
I hope that you are having a great weekend
Hugs
Carolyn
June,
ReplyDeleteThis is such a coincidence! I didn't know much about sweet peas until I read an article in a magazine recently. I have been on the hunt for climbers. So I ordered some seeds from a great seed website (let me know if you want the name of it). Now I figure it is too late in the season so I am saving them for next year. I am so excited now that I have seen your pictures. Can you tell me, do they climb walls, as in do they have suckers like vines. Or are they the twining type like morning glories. I have stone walls at the lake and want to grow something that climbs and I am intimidated by climbing roses. If not sweet peas, any other suggestions??
Sorry this is so long... Hope you are having a super weekend!! :-)
xoxo
Jane
Hello, June,
ReplyDeleteI know your garden must smell heavenly! I think sweetpeas just say cottage garden. I love Cath Kidston, too, and yet have never ordered anything. I need to get a catalog. Love those tins and just about anything else she has done. Hope you have a perfect weekend. Vicki
Hi June,
ReplyDeleteWell. how funny that we both have virtually the same shabby, distressed angel on our header....and....the only thing that I plant from seed are my beautiful sweet peas...one of the lovliest flowers and their fragrance is divine.. My garden is mostly shrubs and perennials . Thanks so much for following me and I shall be back to visit, often. XXXX
OK...you have SWEET PEAS, too!?
ReplyDeleteI'm faint!
I'm draggin' my little tail behind me. Can you see it?

Hello June, Sweet Peas are my favorite! Especially because they always bring happy memories of my grandma's garden... she would even tie strings up her porch rails so they would grow up the string and we would sit out on her porch and talk and laugh and take in their sweet smell... I must order some of those gorgeous canisters too! Your gardens are so lovely... doggie kisses TT Rabbit!...

June, hi! so you are in charge of the wee ones while mom and dad are caring for the little patient. Tonsils out, ugh! I had mine done as an adult and it was not fun, so I wish I had it done when I was younger. They claim that it is easier that way. I hope all goes well! How lucky your daughter is to have you come over and help out!!
ReplyDeleteAs for the sweet peas, I just love them. Oh my, your garden is just so spectacular!! Irises, sweet peas, all the roses you always show us. I think the flowers grow just for you cuz you are such a sweet person!!
And congratulations on all your wins of late. You are one lucky gal!! It seems that I have been missing out on lots of late by not getting around to everyone's posts. Enjoy your new goodies!! Debby

ReplyDeleteI can just imagine how fabulous your garden smells! There is a stall at our farmers market where they sell little bundles of sweet peas for a dollar ~ they are so sweet and I can't resist picking up a few bundles each time I visit ♥
ReplyDeleteHave I told you lately how much I LOVE your garden pictures?!! Sweet peas are one thing I don't have, but should try. I mostly rely on the vast amount of sweet alyssum I have for fragrance...

ReplyDeleteDear sweet June,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE sweetpeas!!! They are one of my most favorite flowers. Here in the hot, humid, muggy south I have to plant them in late October, early November, so they will bloom in early spring before the heat sets in. They are so fragrant and so delicate and pretty. Yours are gorgeous!!! I wish I was there to smell them, and give you a hug, of course! I love how you said, you are thinking this is what Heaven smells like! Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos. My sweetpeas died long ago, so it is wonderful to see you enjoying yours in full bloom!!! The Cath Kidston tins are so pretty. I love her things! I am sure hubby wont mind you using his pocket change for Cath pretties! :)
Hugs and love to you!
Paula
Mother grew sweet peas along side of the garage ... we loved them. The scent was so drawing to them.
