snowballs in June

Hello friends..how is your month going so far?
This month has been windy, windy, windy here in Idaho.
That's the only thing I don't like about living where I live.
This part of Idaho sees a lot of wind in the springtime and makes
enjoying the sunshine a little difficult sometimes.
I try to keep smiling through it but believe me when I say,
I don't like the wind!!!
Far be it from me to complain when so many parts of the country have
had the weather they have had.
So I will just shut up now : )
I have three little snowball viburnum bushes in the garden and this is the first year they
have given me any blooms to speak of. This year they have really put on the growth
and looked beautiful when they bloomed. They are still small and I almost wish they would
stay this size instead of the 8' they will reach when mature, because of where
they are in the garden.

They are so much like hydrangeas in the look of the blooms and I love that.

If you tied me up and tortured me to tell you which of all my plants in the garden is my favorite,
I think I would be pretty badly bruised and banged up because it would go something like this...
It's gotta be the rose---no, no, the peony
wait a minute---it's has to be the snowball bush, or maybe it's the iris
no I'm sure it's the daylily... and on and on like that.

Oh now I remember---it has to be the lilac!!!!!
and speaking of lilacs
I took so many photos of them that you will have to suffer through months and months
of photos of them. I plan on doing the same thing with the peonies and roses, so I am giving you
fair warning that even in the middle of winter I will pepper you with mountains
of flower photos.
I love the white tulips I planted years ago, but sadly these don't multiply
and I forgot the name of them or I would purchase more. They stand so tall
and sturdy and last forever in their bloom.
For those who read this blog who are gardeners, isn't it a joy to go out every morning
and walk through to see what has happened overnight and in those early
morning hours while you slept?
I never cease to be amazed at the beauty I see. I am thankful every single day
that this garden is here and that I am the gardener and caretaker of it.
Yes, it is a lot of work, but I am home with Landon every day anyway and
it gives me something to do to enrich my life while I'm here.
Caring for Landon is a joy, and so is gardening and the two go together so well.
I have friends who say, I don't know how you keep this garden all yourself,
and I always reply, I don't know how you work as hard as you do at your job
or with your little children or your farm and chores.
I think it is in one's nature to find the thing that feeds our soul
and do it and try to do it as well as we can.
When I had six little children at home and we had our dairy, I certainly didn't have this garden.
I had a vegetable garden and canned, and canned, but flowers...no.
I had no time to care for more.
Now I have the time.
And so I do.
The peonies are just coming on and I was able to bring in an armload
to put in my mother's crock.
Does this house ever smell good!
Better than the pickles she made in it!

Wishing you all the best week ever!
Hugs from here...

Dear June,

In this time of the year I don't like snow, but snowballs...these flowers are so wonderful!! Are the tulips from Holland ;-)? Your garden is a little paradise, I can imagine it makes you happy to spend many time in the garden.

Hope you have a wonderful week!

Exquisite as always June! I'm glad I was online when your post went up. Your garden is wonderful. Your photography is wonderful. And those beautiful rooms are wonderful. It just gives me such a lift to visit you. I'm sure no one looks at your photos only once when they visit. I certainly don't! Lovely, lovely. . .

I can't think of anything better in the middle of winter than to gaze at lovely flowers, and be reminded that spring IS on it's way! So no worries there, my gardening friend!
Hmmm ~ need to go find a place in my yard for a snowball or two!

You are living a beautiful life. My gardens are tiny but I adore every ounce of them. There is a deep satisfaction in seeing the growth of what I have planted. To watch it grow over the years and remember it all began from clay hardpan dirt. It takes time and we have only been here 7 yrs but long for the days when the trees are larger and the garden enclosed with green and blooms.

Good afternoon dear June! I hear ya about the wind; we had some bad storms here last week and a portion of Minneapolis got badly hit. Trees down everywhere with flooding. Last year around this time, our end of the city got the damage. Wind is not my favorite element either!

I look at your photos are I am so inspired, and I feel like I should give up but I can't. I am still waiting to get that one beautiful photo, and no matter how much white I have in my field of vision, it never looks attractive. But I will have to settle on admiring other photographers, and it really is an art and joy to behold. Your "snowballs" are WONDERFUL!

I hope those winds die down for you, but we are getting more rain tonight with a lot of wind! Anita

So pretty June! I love all the varieties you have in white. I was thinking your yard must be heaven and you are the angel who takes care of it. All of your arrangements are stunning in their white purity.
Maybe you've had so much wind because we haven't. I was thinking this spring/summer has been one of the stillest I can remember. I think I notice it because I have my American flag hanging from the front porch and it is always just so gently flowing beautifully instead of wrapped up in itself. Enjoy your week!

Sigh...so much beauty in your garden June! I love the snowballs!!! And the white Tulips...ooooh my! I don't have much of a green thumb but I do the best I can with my tiny little lanai! It's a struggle to grow things here in FL with all the humidity though.

Thank you for sharing your lovely photo's with us June and have a wonderful week:)

Absolutely breathtaking June!... I am just like you... can never pick a favorite flower... first is always a rose, like you... then, Foxglove, no wait, Delphinium... I can so relate!... I guess you could say I love ALL flowers!... just some a bit more than others... your mother's crock full of flowers is so pretty!... and I am sure her pickles were tasty too!... yes, I can relate to everything in your post... as a gardeners, I am often asked the same question about doing my gardens all myself... and I always reply "it's just my nature"... as it is yours... it is such a joy each morning to see what is blooming... I also share your dislike of the heavy winds!... I LOVE a nice little cool breeze, but not the strong winds that whip our garden to bits!... hope the winds have calmed down up there for you now and you and your precious Landon are enjoying being in your gardens... xoxo Julie Marie

Love your beautiful photography June! And of course the amazing blooms in your garden. The snowballs are so pretty! And the combination of the white tulips and the Lilacs is just wonderful. I would have never thought of putting them in a bouquet together but maybe that's because I don't have tulips blooming when the Lilac does. It is a great idea though! Now I'll have to try and have some purple tulips next year at the time the purple Lilacs bloom in the garden ;) Unfortunately I don't have the many different Lilacs you have, just one, and I don't have any peonies, so don't worry, even in wintertime your pictures of the spring blooms in your garden will never tire, on the contrary, they'll put a big smile on my face!

Love all your beautiful white blooms in these photos. Thanks for stopping by and your sweet comments about my kids and my gardens. I feel we can relate about gardening and how relaxing it can be. I would be lost without all my plants and flowers to tend to each year and feel blessed to have both them and the time:-)

Bring on all the beautiful photos you want...I'll never be tired of seeing such beauty that you create!

Enjoy Summer!!!

June- I don't even know what to say~ Your flowers and photos are just stunning. My mother had a huge snowball bush that she was very proud of and I don't remember anyone else in our area having one at all. People would come and cut flowers from it to take home.

I solve the dilemma of "favorite" by my own method...lol...I have Favorite flowering BUSH in May and in June and in July, etc. Then I have favorite flowering PLANT, shrub, small flower, large flower, etc. LOL

Roses and peonies and lilacs top my list though. Peonies always remind me of blousy, overdressed Sunday church-going ladies. lol

Hope you have a wonderful week in your garden and I can think of nothing more delightful than seeing pictures of your lilacs in bloom along around November! xo Diana

Oh- I am SOOO mad- I just type a nice long comment and got a Whoops-Error thing and my comment disappeared. Anyway- the brief version is I said that I LOVED this post and have a hard time picking a favorite flower, too- I divide them into categories- favorite bush, shrub, small flower, large flower, lol.

Your flowers/ gardens areSOOO gorgeous. I have never seen white tulips blooming that I remember. They are SO pretty. What a stand out in a garden. I am going to have to look for some of those.

My mother had a snowball bush that was her pride and joy and I don't think anyone around us had one. She must have sent away for it.

Have a good week, June. I will look forward to lilac pictures in the dead of winter! xo Diana

Oh June,
You have such an abundance of flowers and I am quite envious that you ae able to pick lots of them and bring them into your home. Because our garden is north facing, it is quite difficult to grow lots of flowers. Although, this year we have had quite a few roses. We used to have a couple of snowball viburnums but they always used to be completely covered in blackfly and, no matter how hard we tried, we could never get rid of them. It's the same with nasturtium ….. I expect it's got something to do with our weather. Your snowball looks perfect, so I don't think that you have that problem !!
Sorry that my comments have been eratic ….. my husband hasn't been well so blogging hasn't been at the top of my list !!
I'm off out into the garden now to plant up some pots { all white flowers !!! } ….. it's really sunny today so, I have to make the most of it.
I see that you read Madeliefs blog …… she had a photo of my friend's cottage in the Cotswolds ….. I couldn't believe it …. it's a small world isn't it ?
Enjoy your garden and keep showing us your beautiful images of outside and in. Much love to you and your family. XXXX

Ohhh I love this post. If I had a garden it would be all white. I have a vendor-friend who owned a shop she called The White Rabbit. It was on her own land. It was a little white cottage filled with white and all the plants around the garden were white. She had a path leading to "the shed," and all the flowers on both sides were white. The shed was filled with all the other stuff that wasn't all white. The prices were lower in the shed. She folded her business and now it's her little cottage. I miss it.

June, Your garden always send me off into dream world. I dream that I live in your garden surrounded by all the blooms and smells. Keep posting all the wonderful pictures for I hate to wake up and come back to my garden with all it weeds. I keep thinking I can get a handle on those nasty weeds but it sure is a challenge this year! Love snowballs but I'm running out of room to plant and they take space. But I can do more tulips, may have to check out my local tulip farm for those.

Take care dear sweet one as time if flying by so fast! As they say take time to smell the roses! June

Ahhhhhh... what a treat to see all your gorgeous flowers. I agree, who can say which is a favorite. I have to agree that the lilacs have to mostly win though. I have a snowball viburnum and it had so many blooms this year, but doesn't seem to do well as a cut flower. Have you noticed that? I found an Iris this year that i fell in love with... It's called "Champagne Elegance", so it's my new favorite thing. As far as the wind... Did you know when the wind blows it stirs up positive ions in the air, which can make you feel irritated! Sometimes when the wind blows, i feel myself getting really mad, and then i found out about the ions and i was like "ohhhhh"!

http://www.paulabakerlaporte.com/articles/ions-winds-waterfalls-and-well-being/

Love the idea of you in the garden and enjoying it so much. I agree, it is a treat to watch things come up year after year, and anticipate each plants arrival. It's therapy...

Hello my dear!
✿ܓܓ✿ܓ✿ܓ✿ ♥♥♥♥ ܓܓ✿ܓ✿ܓ
You asked us how our month is going so far - well, and I'm happy cause I can tell you that I like JUNE (in both meanings of the word :o))

First of all I want to say, that your white and pink flower-splendor is really a feast for my eyes - and I can understand that it's difficult or impossible to make a decision which plant is the favorite.
Second: Our part of Lower Austria is very windy, too - and i don't like too much wind as well...But we learn to live with it - because we have to (and because we are women who are ABLE to learn to accept :o)).

To your reply "I don't know how you work as hard ..." I just can say: "Well roared, lion!" :o) I think for what we love or what is really necessary, we always will find time.

And last but not least, dearest June, I want to thank you for your sweet and hearttouching comment! Certainly, the translations of my posts are sometimes terribly. I am honored that you're trying to read my long, long texts yet.

Stunning June! I am smiling right along with your battered and bruised body. I too would have a hard time naming my favorite flower. One might say, I never met a flower I didn't like. Some have a special place in my heart, like the Iris. Because my sweet mom loved them so. And although I don't remember my dad, (he passed when I was 9 months old), mom always talked of how the rose was his favorite. My snowballs, Peonies, Iris, and Lilacs are through blooming. Now I look forward to my Delphiniums. Another one of my favorites. lol! Love strolling the gardens each morning and thank God every day for such beauty!

JUNE! So you do know Georgianna! But of course! Oh yes, thank goodness she contacted me to let me know that one of the photos on my post is hers, and she was so kind about it and I was able to link back to her. I perused her page this morning and was I ever blown away by "the look" that I seek for my work, but also by her subject matter. I am trying to really focus on what I need to do to make my "snap shot" look transform into that dreamy, creamy look you and Georgianna achieve. I am learning! I also need to find some great points of interest here (and there are many) so I can get that architectual interest in my photos as well.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I don't know if I'll hear back from Georgianna, so I wonder if you will know - are you familiar with ISSUU magazine template? Georgianna as well as Coty Farqhuar uses it to make emags, and that is something I'd like to do. Do you know how to use it?
