a little sewing and some flower photos from the past summer

~~finding a little time to do some sewing this winter~~

I love the slower days of winter because I am able to to sit at the sewing machine
more than usual. I don't think there are too many things
I like doing more than sewing things for the home.
I had resolved that this winter I would get in and make a major dent in my fabric stash and
since I have waaay too much fabric and already have three quilt tops ready to have
machine quilted (when I can afford it :))) I decided to make pillows.

pillows for the bed

pillows for the sofa
And this isn't even all of them. I'm sure you will be seeing them in future
photos, but they are summery and some of them
will be going outside or on the sofas in the spring.

I'm like that with everything I do.
Once I get started on something I have a hard time reining myself in.
It really becomes noticeable when I craft or sew. I do a kind of assembly
line thing. I'm one of those...if a little is good...a lot, is A LOT better.
I always make more of something than I will ever need.

I also made a ruffled linen cushion topper thingy for the sofa so when
the dog jumps on the white sofa to see whose at the door
I can throw it in the wash and not the whole slipcover.

but guess what? I only made one!

I've also been sewing some stars (too many, I might add)
from all my scraps for a little garland for a granddaughter's room.
I hope to share them here when I get them done.

Remember when I wrote that I had taken a ga-zillion photos of blooms from the
garden and would bore you with them this winter?
well~~~ it's winter
so here we go with some of the peonies

Thank you to all who read here and to all those who follow along.
It's a wonderful way to share the things I love and love to do.

~~hugs from here~~

Pillows are all so pretty and the star garland will be treasured by that lucky granddaughter. It really is a blessing to see the bright blooms this time of year. All of your pillows add a loveliness to your beautiful sweet home! I have found the same beds for my girls many years ago! They are so romantic looking with small prints and florals and I love them painted white! My youngest has moved on to a queen four poster bed but I will always keep them and look forward to the day when they are wearing lovely quilts and florals again! Cheers, Colette

  44. Hi, June, You're getting a lot accomplished this year. Interested in seeing what the star garland will look like. I love pillows. My husband, on the other hand, has a different word for them because he doesn't. That doesn't stop me, though. They just don't get it. Wonderful, too, to see the peonies in the middle of this winter. Blessings, Diane

  45. Oh, Lovely Lady - will you adopt me?
I would tidy the bits and bobs - all the fly away threads, just to be able to play with you.
June - you always have the prettiest choices in fabric and design.
Someone bought my 4 1/2 yr old granddaughter a sewing machine for Christmas {and it's me clapping my hands}. It's a kids - run on battery version. But I am excited that my little protege is excited about sewing with me and taking the big machine for a test drive.

  47. Hi June,
Ok just a thought, you mentioned you only made the one slipcover thingy for your sofa so when the dog jumps up on it to see who is out the window that your doggie won't get the sofa dirty? .... Well maybe you need to make another one so when you take that one off to wash it you can place the second one on so the dog won't jump up on the sofa while the seat over slip thingy is being washed :)

I too have fabrics cut out for sewing, and why did I not get sewing well in my latest post you will see that it was the wool knits that got the best of me and I started créated pillow shams, "Lumbar pillows) and euro pillow shams with feather inserts. I am crazy this way, I will start one thing and move right into another project and then sometimes have severl going at once.

You my dear have truly inspired me to get sewing with what fabrics I have cut into projects.
I love the floral pillows, so sweetly chic, and the sofa pillows, well what can I say they really add so much fluff to a room that needed nothing to add to its beauty, yet more is better as you put it and I so agree.
You have the best vignettes, the best florals, and the vintage in your shots, love that French sette.

See you soon, enjoy all the days of quiet ahead of you, will be looking forward to all that you have sewn up.

    Xoxo

  58. Dearest June, Good evening! How lovely of you to come visit my post....oh my friend, it was so painful for me to post my last post, but it's true; time just won't bend at our will. Only so much can get done in a lifetime, and I wish I could still write for my blog, but I am shifting my time I'd normally spend looking for photos, music and then writing for my private poetry time. However, I am in the process of taking my better blog posts, making manuscripts and taking away all the Pinterest photos all for the purpose of self-publishing a book. I will not delete my blog, I still will visit other blogs, and will hopefully write an update on my progress. You are such a beautiful soul; I wish you the best of days and times with your beloved ones! HUGS TO YOU! Anita

  65. Oh thank goodness for the Winter June as you get to enjoy your next most loved thing to do besides gardening and that is sewing at your machine - just like me!
Your new cushions look so dreamy on your bed with all the soft colours merging and blending so beautifully.
I love the idea of the slip cover on the couch. I have a similar thing on mine!
The little stars will look adorable when hanging in your grand daughter's bedroom!

Your peonies, no matter when you share them here - Summer of Winter, just take my breath away!
They look just perfect sitting on that beautifully covered upholstered chair - like they were made for each other.

I have a few garden photos on my current post but I still need to create more beauty with them if that is possible.

I was just thinking how wonderful it would be for me to pay you a visit and help you get those quilt tops turned into finished quilts - you are more than half way there!!!
    LOL!

Blessings and love to you sweet friend as I soon go off to bed dreaming of the softness of the pinks in those divine peonies!
