Hey, it didn't rain today!

It has rained so many days , that I have forgotten what sunshine is. We didn't get any rain today. Not one drop, but it was cold. Only in the 50's. Are you kidding me? The silver lining however, is that I haven't had to drag hoses around. I don't have a sprinkler system, so I do all the watering with a hose and sprinkler. It is a lot of work keeping the garden watered, so the rain has been a blessing. You don't want to be in the garden when I'm dragging hoses around, because when they get hung up on something or get a kink in them, I can swear like a sailor. Oh yes I can, just ask hubs. Nothing is more frustrating to me than setting my water. I don't know why I let it bother me so. I don't swear any other time. (well, unless I stub a toe, or step on one of Landon's legos, or). I don't say real bad words though. My swear word of choice is another word for manure, so it could be worse I suppose. Anyway, we are supposed to have some nice weather for awhile and I'm really looking forward to it. Hubs and I put out the hammocks today in hopes that the weather man is right. I hope you enjoy these pictures from the garden today.
I am finally getting high speed Internet this next week. I hope this helps with the problems I've been having with my blog. I can't add things to my sidebar without freezing everything up and bringing up my blog pages takes forever. I don't know how much will be solved by getting rid of dial-up but I'm hopeful.

Poppies...and other garden blooms...
'Beauty of Livermoor' poppy
a late blooming lilac
'Princess Victoria Louise' poppy
iris, salvia, and poppy
poppies and my neighbors house peeking through the trees
I like the pop of red in the garden
a lovely iris blooming now
pink poppy and lady's mantle
What a difference a week makes. I can't believe all the color starting to show up in the beds. So different from last week when all there was was green. The rain has not stopped and it is starting to look like a jungle out here. I have got to mow the grass, but it is so wet and hard to get through. Surely it will stop soon. Anyway, I love it when this time comes around. I love my poppies. I have so many of them in this garden, and I'm sure I will definitely acquire more. I have my favorites, but to me they are all beautiful. Their papery petals are such a contrast to their hairy, coarse stems and leaves. The poppies in my garden are all perennials. I haven't tried any of the annual poppies, but I'm sure I would love them. I still have many more to bloom, as they are just now getting started. My favorite one to date is 'Watermelon' and it is yet to bloom. There is one starting to open in a bed by the drive, that looks like it is going to be a stunner and it is as tall as my shoulders. I can't wait to see that one in full bloom. Boy, do I love this time of year.

This is how the garden looks as of today. The trees are done blooming except this Horse chestnut. I love the blooms on this tree. It blooms for quite along time and is right at the top of the drive for everyone to enjoy. When I was working in the garden today, I saw someone pull over and start taking pictures. Maybe this tree caught their eye. The beds are looking fuller now and a lot greener, thanks to all the rain we have been blessed with. There are a few things blooming now, but in about ten days there will be a riot of color in the beds. Because of all the rain, I haven't been able to get out and weed the beds like I would like to. Today I made up for lost time. I went out very early to work in it and quit about 4:30. It was a little chilly so Landon had to stay in the house. Which meant I had to go in every few minutes to check on him. He cannot be left alone for any length of time, so in that amount of time I still didn't get as much done as I could have had hubs been home to watch him. But any day in the garden is a good day.
