Porch living...

I wish the porch looked like this everyday...but it doesn't. Rural living is a challenge sometimes. The fields around us are in constant change. The farmers are either plowing, harrowing, sowing and reaping, which makes for a lot of dust and chaff. We have also had a lot of rain this summer and since this is an open pergola I have to bring the fufu-y stuff inside when that happens. In fact just this morning it all had to come in for awhile because it started to rain. Yes, it's a pain, but still worth it. I do wish it was a covered porch. Maybe someday.
This is a favorite spot of the whole family and it seems we gather here more than any other place when the children come to visit. I think it's because this is where you will find Dale (hubs) when he is home. This is his man-cave...(sure looks like it, doesn't it?) He doesn't seem to mind the fluff though. He's a good man and puts up with all the fu-fu-la. The chenille settee is where you will find him when he's home. Mostly in a horizontal position. The porch was only half this size this spring, but when I acquired the iron table and chairs, and the four piece patio set (at a thrift store) we had to make more room. Hubs was happy to build on to HIS room and it went up pretty fast. We have sure enjoyed the extra space here and I'm happy you could join us on the porch today!!!

  2. June, it is certainly the prettiest man-cave I have ever seen ;) Even showed Josh lol. I love how you have captured it here so romantically...and thanks for sharing about how you bring it all in when needed...sometimes living in the cold/rainy/unpredictable weather in NY I start feeling bad that others "out there" get to have beautiful outdoor living spaces all year long...glad to know I am not the only one who takes the time to set it all out and then bring it all in ;)

    All the best,

  7. What a DIVINE porch! I love the pinks..whites and roses!

I am amazed that it looks so pretty considering where you live. I am in the same boat here in Utah.. I just need a covered porch. *sigh* one day.

All of my pillows are fading.. and we have to move things around when rain is expected also. :0 It's alot of work.. but worth it to make it pretty! :)

Your porch is dreamy.. oh so dreamy...

  8. This is such a romantic place! All those roses the real ones and the ones on the fabric, combined with the whites and the worn colors; simply stunning! No wonder it's a favorite spot of the whole family, I do hope there will be plenty of days to come to sit and relax and enjoy each others company here. Starting this weekend!

  11. June,

Is there any part of your house or garden or porch that is not amazingly beautiful? Every time I think I have seen the most beautiful part of your home you surprise me with another post:). You really need to be in a magazine or a book! You are so talented!

  13. Awwwwwwww! Such beauty, serenity & romance spill forth on your 'porch'. It radiates, peacefulness exudes forth ... one awesome spot! You decorate so elegantly, June. I've yet to see anything that doesn't capture ... my hat is off to you, June.

  14. Hi June!!

I thought you were posting pictures from a magazine until I read your commentary!! Everything is so pretty. Romantic. And yes, some fu fu, but not overdone! I just love what you have done, including the gardening aspect. I was wondering what type of flowers are those in the pale blue metal container. They are gorgeous!!

I hope you are having a fabulous holiday weekend!! :-)

  16. I agree with Kim!! You definitely need to be in a magazine. Your porch is just gorgeous June!! I do the same thing. Haul it in and out. We live on a DIRT road and my front porch faces the road. You can just imagine all the dirt and dust that creates. Ugh. We were told by a road engineer when we moved here over 27 years ago that they were going to pave the road soon. Well, it has not happened and I am sure it won't now. But I do love the country!!
    Blessings~
PS I am moving in too!! Get my room ready please.

  17. oh, come on! This is insane! Every post is better than the last. Now I am certainly depressed about the condition of my porch and yard. Ok, you're making me get out next week in this heat and do something about it!. If I didn't like you so much, I wouldn't like you at all, it's all just too amazing. Kudos, and another "yes, you should get a photo shoot of your garden", or start doing it professionally.
    AMAZING!

  20. Well, the first thing I noticed is the size...room for everyone! I'm getting to the place where we need a lots of room, too.
But what I've really come to appreciate about you, June, is how you just love your little spot and enjoy it for *you* and make it a place your family comes home to. That means so much to me...I spend so much of my time doing for others that *my* home is lacking. I'm really starting to reconsider this...Thanks for being an inspiration.
Tell Ember *Hi* for me this weekend and oh BTW your porch is just gorgeous!
Have a great weekend at all those little shops!

  21. June, your blog is just inspirational and absolutely delicious. I have just arrived and spent some time reading your older posts as well. I too adore my garden and it is Spring here in southern Australia. We have had water restricitions in force all winter and soon we will not be allowed to water our gardens except for one hour a week hand watering (come November even that will end). It's amazing what you can do with bath and laundry water!! My David Austin roses will be in bloom soon and we say thank you for every drop!! There is much to be happy about.

Those pink roses in the first photo are gorgeous. Are those from your garden? If you know the name of them could you send me an email or leave a comment on my blog? Thanks! cindy95131@yahoo.com
