Pure Gold

The leaves have been falling steadily in the garden and so it is now time
to get the rakes out. All week has been spent cutting back all the perennials
that need it and  doing a little weeding in the beds.

The leaves have been truly brilliant this year.
The golds and reds are beautiful out in the garden and the weather
has been perfect this October.
A little crisp during the days with cold nights.

I love the crunching leaves underfoot as I go about my work.

After I took these photos a few days ago I almost took the hammock down
to store it over for winter.
I'm not sure what it was that distracted me from the chore but I am so
glad it did because 3 of the grandchildren were here on Sunday and they
played forever in it.
As you can guess---it's no longer covered in leaves : )

This is what it looks like from my bedroom window.
I've written before how much I love looking out of these windows to the garden
and counting my blessings. I never tire of this daily ritual.
It seems to center me.
It's one of my many forms of meditation.

I feel that if we don't take the time to be grateful for what we already have
how can ever make room in our lives for more?

Every day when  I take the time to do this...my heart seems to expand and then I feel that it
enables me to see even more beauty in all of my surroundings the rest of the day.
It truly is one of the best times of my day.

My thankful time.

Speaking of thankful....

I would love to show you my favorite place on earth.
The colors this fall have been so beautiful.

This is a property we have that is about 17 miles from our home located up a canyon
in the Fishcreek drainage.
It is the summer pasture for our horses and it is also where my little shack is.
If you look to the far right side of the photo below you can barely see some red in the trees
and that's my own little place.

This property is forty acres of pasture and woods and was once owned by Dale's grandfather
and then later by his great aunt Lib.

In the photo below is a little grove I particularly love.
Because of the zoning laws in our county we haven't been able to build a good
sized cabin and can only build things under a specific square footage (small)!!! but I would like to build myself another little teeny little structure here and hand my little shack over to the men in the family.

and this is where my little red shack sits in another grove of aspen
-it's the red you see through the aspens-
my daughter and I painted it red last year and it looks so pretty in the snow with the
white bark of the bare aspens around it

This photo was taken on the hillside of the forty acres looking toward the reservoir that sits south of us.
It's a favorite fishing spot for many fishermen in the summer.
This road (the West Fork road) splits our place in two and gets
quite a workout in the summer, fall and sometimes winter when the ice fishing is good.

This is looking west and again the road that splits our property. The road isn't maintained in the winter
so to get into our place in winter is usually by snowmobile.

The horses will be coming off the pastures this week and brought home to where we live to be wintered.
Below is the north side of the road and a lovely view of the mountains.

This side has about thirty acres of the total amount of the property.
I love this view, but I favor the more wooded parts of the place that are
on the other side of the road.

If you would like to see it in summer I did post about it a few years ago here.

In a couple of days the little witches, goblins, faeries, princesses, batmans, vampires, bunnies
or whatever costumes the little ones come up with will be at the door
for their treats and I will be ready for them.
((nope---I haven't eaten all the candy---YET))
I love seeing all the children of our town on the night of Halloween.
It's another joy of small town living.

Happy Halloween
I bought a new broom for the night!

Just stunning dear June... always love seeing your beautiful countryside... especially in Autumn... I do the same thing you do... gaze out of my window at the beauty in my gardens and the hills just to the east of me and count my many blessings as well... you are right... it is meditation for our souls... I also love your little red shack... what a beautiful little place to retreat to... Happy Halloween to you... we are ready for the little goblins as well, and yes, I DID have to go buy more candy (Jack ate more than I did, really)... xoxo Julie Marie

Oh glorious, gorgeous, gold indeed June! I am taking all these photos in with such delight. You are truly blessed to live with these vistas, this beautiful land, right out your door. No wonder you feel thankful as you look out your bedroom window. It is good advice - to reflect on the blessings that surround us before we ask for more. I adore the leaves in your urn inside, too. Now I'm going outside to gather some up - inspired by you!

Oh June, you are so surrounded with beauty, in both places you can call home, dear.
Your collected leaves in the white urn, looks so beautiful, and especially lovely, with the white pumpkins resting on some, too.
And the view from your window, is a feast, now in yellow, but I`m sure every season of the year.
Your horses have the most amazing spot, to spend their summer, in that wonderful place surrounded of the aspens looking fantastic in their fall dress.
Thank you for all the beauty- and hugs.

This is SENSATIONAL!!!!!! June my dear, I can never understand something about your photography, and that of Jade's in Bavaria. You both seem to be able to capture all the white softness in a room or landscape and if there is one prominant color (like your trees), then all that is in the photo is the white and its soft tones (like gray) and then the yellow. When I take a photo with white and a prominent color, I seem to pick up all sorts of other colors....do you Photoshop? Or is this asking too much? HAHA! Beautiful as always. Anita

And... what is better than a hammock... i know the kids AND adults love it...
So nice that you appreciate it all and count your blessings... appreciation is powerful energy - you're so cool...

How I loved standing in your shoes to share the stunning countryside you spend your days near dear June! How very different those views are to the view from my own bedroom window, where I am only yards away from my neighbours houses, yet fortunate in this suburb to be in the sight of magical trees. Your Aspens are so golden! I wonder if they are the same tree (my favourite) that over here in the UK we call Silver Birch? Thank you so much for sharing your magical mountains and pasture with us. I found myself wondering if you rode one of your horses the seventeen miles, but then thought no, they drove in the truck one of your pictures shows. How marvelous it is that all of us your internet friends can for even just a brief moment in our lives gaze through your eyes and enjoy the beauty !
I must away to find my broom and make haste for tomorrow we fly!! :)))).

Dear June,
Well, I can only echo everyone else's words ..... you live in such a beautiful place. Not only is your garden wonderful but, the surrounding scenery is stunning..... and, so vast !! The UK is such a tiny little island and is so different but, even so, we still have some beautiful scenery too. We all live in such different places don't we June ? I often think that we are quite lucky as, we are only 20 minutes away from the centre of London, but we also have the countryside on our doorstep.
I love yor urn { I have one the same !! } with the scattered leaves .... you always think outside the box June..... and, to have that little cabin with so much land around it and such wonderful views must be a fantastic retreat.
.... and, although the scenery where we live isn't quite as magnificent as yours, we have lots of trees, the church spire and the peeling of the church bells to look at and listen to. Everytime I pass the large sash window on the landing, I look out at the trees and the church ..... I shall now think of you when I do that !!!!
Happy Halloween June ..... have fun. XXXX

Dear June
Coming here is like coming "home" except you at the moment are in pure gold as we are in rich greens and pastels.

Such a beautiful vignette of Autumn leaves in the urn with the white pumpkins!

We are so fortunate to be able to share all the same goodness that feeds our very souls and all the golden Aspens are pure beauty not to mention your little "hi-de-hole" tucked away in amongst them. Jeff and I have over the months been building a shabby little "garden room" quite similar but smaller where we can retreat to and it sure has been that place over these very sad times.

Thank you sweet friend for your loving care and kindness expressed over dear Andrea's passing. It has been such a sad time but I would do it all again if needed - to be there for someone in such need. She and her partner came back here to live with us at the beginning of the year not knowing her fate.
I have loved and learned so much from someone so blessed in handling such pain.

Sending love and hugs,
Suzy

Wonderful landscapes!
I've never seen so much yellow and such a bright color. Yellow trees, yellow bushes. And al of it on a lilac background. Beautiful! I'd like to paint it. It's a pity I'm not a painter. Usually there is a larger variety of autumn colors - from green to red.
It's a dream for many to have such a place where city buidings don't surround you everywhere, to have so much land in property.
It's so stupid, Russia is a very large country, but here people mostly own very small pieces of land. Standard property is 20x30 metres (~65х100 feet). Some have larger pieces, but still they are rather small, not acres.
