My mom...

Mom, as a child

Mom, her mom, sister

My brothers, sister, and mom

my mom now, at 80

I was one of those blessed children. A child born to a woman of the fifties who loved her husband and family more than any other thing in the world. My childhood was enchanted and it was my mother who made it so. She was beautiful and talented at homekeeping. Our home was definitely a haven for all of her six children and her husband. She was passionate about making her home cozy and beautiful at the same time. I remember that we were not allowed in my mother's bedroom.(except nap time with mom) It was her space and she had all kinds of lovelies in there. My mother and father went dancing every week on a particular night and that was the only time we were allowed in her room. My little sister and I would sit on her bed and watch her get ready to go out. Sometimes she would put her lipstick on us before sending us out of the room. My mother was one of those women who made every meal an occasion. She was an amazing cook. The table was always set as if we were expecting company. I never did get the hang of that. My mom loved animals and I swear we had every farm animal you can name on our little acreage. My sister and I were talking the other day about just how lucky we were. We both feel that our childhood was magical. My sister and I are a year and a week apart and our birthdays were always celebrated together. Mom always made our birthdays special, always making us feel very important and loved. Every holiday was an occasion at our house. And could my mom keep Christmas. She was a tree trimming, light hanging, fruitcake making fool. Mom, if you are reading this ( and I know you are) I want to thank you for giving your whole life to your family and making my world a safe and beautiful place to grow up. Have a happy Mother's Day. I love you.

June, your Mom sounds like a real TREASURE!! What a lovely childhood you had. But it comes as no surprise to me, because where else would a delightful, kind, and warm-hearted person like yourself come from but from a happy childhood with a loving mom like yours!!! I wish you and your family, and your very special Mom a wonderful day today!!! warm hugs, Debby

What a gorgeous tribute to a beautiful lady. I loved reading this. Thank you for sharing and I'm sure your mother will love it. I grew up in the same era, and my mom was a stay-at-home mom, but sad to say, that's where the similarites end. My mom is gone now, and although we definitely didn't have a good homelife, I miss her. ♥

What a beautiful lady your Mother is June. How fortunate you are to have all of those wonderful memories of life, love and holidays with her.

Although my Mother passed away almost 6 years ago when I was only 33, I share the same sentiments exactly as I come from a famiy of 6 siblings too! (we do have a lot in common!!)

You are so fortunate to have her still...her hugs, her phone calls, or just her simple smile when you need it.

Happy Mother's Day June...and to your beautiful Mother as well. She has instilled those best qualities of her in you.

Because whether you know it or not, your place is always set up for company too...that's why I love to come and visit~

I am sure your children can say many of the same things about you (I can definitely tell only having known of you for the last few weeks that you certainly keep a cozy and warm home filled with love!). Ok Junie-Girl...I'm tearing up again.

This is an amazing tribute to your mother. I'm not sure I've ever read such loving words penned about a mother. Reading your words brought to my mind the passage in Proverbs of the virtuous woman. Your mother is a wonderful example of the kind of lady who, once her children were born, put them ahead of everything else...I believe this is how it should be.

I also had to smile when I read about you not being allowed in her bedroom. My hubby wasn't allowed in his parent's room either. Before we married and I met his mother for the first time, I aimlessly walked into her bedroom only to be told by my then boyfriend "we aren't allowed in there!". Precious memory for me even now...we still giggle at the thought of being banned from that bedroom even as adults! That was "her place"...a sanctuary of sorts...

I always come away blessed by you and your gracious spirit. The gifts of your loving mother have indeed found their way to you!

Love to you...hope your Mother's Day was beautiful.

Your mother is beautiful:) Your childhood sounds so magical.

My mother was also an amazing cook and homemaker. I remember her helping us build tents in our rooms out of blankets, forts in the back yard, and sewing clothes for our Barbie dolls:). She had to go back to work when I was in middle school and I watched as she raised us, put herself through school, and worked. She was always an inspiration to us (it was just me and my sister). Moms are really great treasures. Thanks for sharing your memories and stirring up mine:)

Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

Blessings,

Kim
