Grand opening for a beautiful new store and collage for my mom

Do you remember the store I posted about awhile ago called Warehouse Beautiful?

They are having their Grand Opening this weekend.
This is truly an amazing shop filled to the brim with all kinds of
treasures. I remember walking in and literally being blown away by the beauty of it.

I wanted to let any of my readers who live in the Boise area about it
in case you wanted to see it for yourself.

This Grand Opening includes all the shops located in what is called
the Warehouse District.

Warehouse Beautiful, Red Rooster Annex,
Garden Gate Antiques, Gatherings at the School,
Betty Lou's Estate Sale

118 37th Street
off Chinden between Orchard and Curtis
Friday May 13th
10am-8pm
Saturday May14th
10am-5pm

A portion of the sales of this grand opening will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society.
My daughter Ember is participating in the Pacific Crest Triathlon on June 26th
in honor of my sister-in-law who passed away in October from leukemia.
Her web page is

I am hoping that I can go, but even if I miss the grand opening, this is a shop I will be visiting
every time I make the trip to Boise.

*************

I am so happy to be posting today. I have missed it since Easter.
I haven't had the opportunity to blog lately because of some events
that have kept me from the computer.
So today I am going to sit here all day and get caught up with some of my friends here.
It is only 47 degrees out here today and rainy, so it is the perfect opportunity.
Later this week we are actually going to have some warm days,
so I know that I will be in the garden doing some clean-up.

Can you believe that my forsythia still haven't bloomed and that my lilacs are
still in tight little buds???
Not a lot to post about on the garden blog yet, that's for sure!

WHINE!!!

I am so ready to plant these pretty red thrifts that I found at the nursery the other day.
I also bought some hollyhocks to plant by the shed.
I am getting that bed ready right now, but wanted to paint the shed first.
The weather hasn't wanted to cooperate with me on that plan however.

So I thought I would do a little photo shoot with the Thrift while I wait to put them in the ground.
It has been so hard for me to stay away from the nurseries and garden centers this Spring.
I am always tempted to push my growing season here by buying my annuals for pots and vegetables too
early and then have them die due to frost damage. I never remember to cover them with frost cloth
when I should.

I wanted to show you a fabric collage I made for my mom for Mother's Day.
As my mom gets older it becomes increasingly difficult to decide what to give her as gifts.
This year I thought that a collage would be fun to put together for her.
I used a photo that my father took of her soon after they were married.

I am new to collaging with fabric, and so it takes me ages to make these, and I have so
a lot to learn and much room for improvement.

It takes me days (weeks really) to choose the picture I want to use.
then...

Then it takes me days to decide what I want to use as my fabrics.
Then it takes me forever to do the layering.
This one I kept pretty simple and I like how it turned out.
Get a look at those legs, will ya!!!!

I have so many great pictures of my mom, so I know that I will be making a lot more collages
of her as the subject.

I love using old photos of my own family for collages.
We have so many great ancestral pictures in my family.
My dad had a darkroom in our home when I was young and copied old family
pictures for people.
I remember the days spent in his darkroom as the pictures
would develop from plain white sheets to the most wonderful images
of people's families.
My father was seldom without his camera, so we have sooo
many wonderful pictures of us as children.
His favorite subject was my mother of course.

Mom seemed to like her gift, but not nearly as much  I loved making it for her!

I hope all of you enjoyed a wonderful Mother's Day!
Wishing you all a lovely week ahead too.

big hugs from here!

Hi June, your collage you made for your mother is absolutely gorgeous!... I am sure she just loved it!... I wish I knew how to make those... we too are having a rainy, dreary day today, and I soo wanted to be in my gardens... we are actually not too far ahead of you garden wise... my lilacs are still tight little buds too... they usually bloom for my birthday which is this week, but I don't think they will this year... I did have my first Hummingbird return two days ago, so I was excited! Also love your Thrift, one of my very favorites as well... that shop looks so wonderful, I would get lost in there for days!... hope you have fun when you go... and hope you had a great Mother's Day... xoxo Julie Marie PS Love that your daughter is in the marathon in honor of your sister in law...

Anyway...Love your flowers and can't wait to see more of your garden. Also...that store is 2die4. But, since I live so far from you I doubt I will ever see it in person. WAH! Too bad for me!

Hello June! so much to say here... first and foremost, that collage is beautiful! I, being a girl who loves to work with neutrals is head over heels for it. Your mom is a beauty and all of the fabrics and trims you added made that such a special gift.
secondly... you grew up with a dark room in your home? No wonder your photos are always spectacular! You have been handed down the gift of photography from your dad! That is so cool!
Thirdly... that store is gorgeous! I wish I lived closer, I would hide away in there and maybe just take up residence for a bit!
Lastly... (yeah I was gonna say fourthly but that didn't sound right) I don't think I have ever seen thrifts before but I will be on the look out for them now!
Have a wonderful week, thank you for all of the beaufiful photos and inspiration! xoxooxoox

First of all the thrift is beautiful. It looks like it's embroidered! It doesn't even look like flowers! My lilacs, forsythia and other early flowers are the same as your - probably 6 weeks late. Beautiful shop. I wish I lived closer. I think the collage you made is gorgeous, I can see your resemblance to her - both beautiful women. I hope you had a great Mother's Day June. Hugs, Diane

June, your collage is exquisite. Your Mother had to be tickled with such a fabulous creation from you ... it is worth more than gold.

I just sauntered thru your shares to catch up ... if only my gardens were as beautiful as yours. I put in 704 new plants not counting the seeds. I so hope they all do well. My first lilac bloomed, I was thrilled.

This shop is over the moon fabulous ... almost makes one wish to travel. Such elegance & romance ...

Slowly getting back up on this end ... things just bog down one every now & then.

Hope all is well with you & your family, my friend.

Thank you for being there ...

We had Tatiana's First Communion yesterday. Angelic ...

Hope you had a lovely Mother's Day ~

I wish Ember well on June 26th. I'm sure she will do brilliantly.

Let's see, if I left my house by 2:30am I could make the opening of that fabulous store. dang, wish gas prices were cheaper for I' crazy enough to do something like that. It sure does look fun! I love your collage!! But I did get a chuckle for my Mom, bless her heart just didn't get my crafting, especially quilting. She wondered why I would cut perfectly good fabric into little piece just to sew them back together. Quilting to her was taking useable fabric scrapes from old clothing to make warm winter blankets. You didn't waste anything. Sad news, I won't be able to attend Farm Chicks this year. I so wanted to go but a family function come up and family will always come first in my life. So if you make it I expect lots of your wonderful pictures. Hugs!

I love the thrift! I am not a red flower person but these are so perky and fun...I would plant them!
:)

I have thrift in white though and saw it's little buds just this morning!
I have been thinking about you and hope all is well!

OH JUNE BUG, YOUR COLLAGE IS GORGEOUS! Your mother is SO beautiful...I only have a couple of snappies of my mom, so they are very treasured.
And what a great new shop! I LOVE that table and chair set...YUM. If I lived a wee bit closer, I could meet you there :)
Ah yes I feel your pain...I am such a "sissy" in the cold, and I am READY for warm weather. I JUST picked my first bouquet of lilacs and it is so lovely. Tomorrow is SUPPOSED to be decent, so hoping to go out and PLAY, PLAY, PLAY! May you be able to do the same...love to you...Rosie

Your collages are beautiful. And I SO wish I could come to that incredible store. My 11 year old son is a leukemia survivor (4 years post chemo-yay!). What a great cause. Thanks for posting about it.

Dear June, first of all I want you to know how I miss your garden and I know that climate has been changing all over the world and that your garden is late this spring as mine is still producing roses as never before due to high temperatures and no rain at all over here... so we have to wait for things to get settle and get used to new timings in our gardens, and knowing for sure that nature will never dissapoint us even with all these changes (how I wish I could express myself in spanish...)

Your mother was a beauty and I did took a look at her wonderful legs!!! and love your dad because we shared same interests, I did too learnt photography when I was young and had for years my darkroom where I spent lots of days and nights doing black and white pictures, before I was married, lots of fun!!!

and I think I want to move to Idaho for some years just to shop in those great places you always tell us you have around!!!!
sending you lots and lots of hugs my dear

How lovely your collage turned out, I am very slow at them too, then I tend to overdue them. I enjoyed your photos so much, I always do. I think some almost spring photos of your flower buds would be charming June. Liacs,,I love them, I am going to try one here, I will have to treat it like a princess in this climate.
Lovely visit June!
