Out like a lion ! ! !

A look at some of the roses in my garden

The wind has been raging here for the past few days. It's not at all fun to go outside even to get in the truck to go and get my coke in the mornings. I really do not like the wind. I was so hoping to be able to get out into the garden beds and do some pruning on the roses today. There was a lot of damage done to the canes by the heavy snows we got all winter. I want to get out there and trim them up so they don't look so hopeless. Sunday morning at about 3:00 am it started to lightening and thunder. I love a good storm as long as I'm inside watching it. I layed there listening to the thunder and seeing the flashes of lightening and it almost had a soothing effect on me. Now I realize that here in Idaho we don't get the severe storms that other areas get so I can feel relatively safe. But I've always loved L&T storms. There's something eerie and beautiful about them. I don't love the wind however and I'm hoping that April brings tamer weather so I can get out there and get those roses in shape so that they can look like the pictures above that I took of them this past summer.

Hi June,
I enjoy thunder storms also as long as it doesn't get too close.
Your roses and perennials are beautiful so I can see why you are anxious to get out there. I also love your birdhouse.
What roses do you grow? I have quite a few David Austen's but they do have to have good winter protection here and still have a lot of dieback so I have been getting more hardy roses lately as they are less work for me but I do enjoy both.
Take care,
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn, The roses in these pics are the hardy shrub roses zoned for 3 and 4. Since our winters can dip as low as -20 I don't have good luck with most english roses. My elevation is about 3500ft. I do have a few but they are not thriving. I love Champlin and Adelaid Hoodless as red ones. The climber pictured here is John Cabot. But I love William Baffin, Henry Kelsey, Westerland, and New Dawn. Bonica does well but I have a lot of dieback with it. It's so hardy however that it recoups very well. I love Morden roses. They all do well in the garden. But my favorite rose in the garden is Collette (climber) totally worry free and the most beautiful blooms. I have about 25 different types in the garden. But about 32 total. Some I love so much I duplicate them.Thank you for the for your visits.

Thunder storms remind me of fear & comfort. The fear being the thunder and comfort in the light sky of the lighting. The rain is the soothing part of the storm. Somehow it really lets you know your alive & okay. I especially love the storms that produce brilliant sky's of color when they are over.

Hello June, LOVE your garden, those flowers are something to envy, that is for sure. Just so beautiful. I wish I had your green thumb. The best I can grow are some radishes, and they don't take much talent! :-) Your bird house is just adorable! did someone make that for you? My dad used to have bird houses in the yard, several of them, cuz he felt he had to give the birds enough room and enough variety to suit all their tastes! How I miss him! As for your weather, sorry to hear that it was so stormy and cold. That is the way germany is most times, but I have to admit to be very lucky this year, after so much rain and cold and wind in March, the month left like a lamb. We had 60°and sunshine. go figure. I too love storms, and actually rarely admit it cuz everyone always seems so amazed that anyone could LIKE a storm. but I do. I love the sound of rain against the windows, the stronger the better. And the lightning fascinates me, and the noise doesn't bother me a bit when it gets really close! I even like wind. we had a hurricane hit the area 2 years ago and it was scarey, but I have to admit to also being eerily fascinated by how that strong wind sounded blowing around the house and rattling the shutters. It was an interesting experience.

HAPPY APRIL FOOL'S DAY to you June. Take care, Debby (p.s, Patty from Crisfield has a great post today about policemen, you might be interested in it since your husband is also one.) (p.s.s. thanks for sharing that tidbit of info with me about DH, how interesting!)
